The Internet Jukebox Broke My Heart

I love jukeboxes. I guess if you have been reading around here you have got that one figured out already.

I even have a fun time with the new internet jukeboxes. Sure - the sound almost always fills the room perfectly. Any club or bar with a new internet jukebox probably has invested in the dollars to add the appropriate amount of speakers to the room.

Sure - the internet jukebox has all the songs you could ever image. So does a record store. So does Apple's iTunes Store.

But that's not the point.

The point is the excitement and surprise when I walk in to a new club or restaurant - and spot a vintage juke box in the corner. Hurriedly, I excuse myself from the table to stroll by and check out the box - Show me what you got...

The jukebox was always an extension of the club owner. The jukebox mirrored the mood and motif of the bar you were standing in. One could almost decide how a guy voted just by looking at the menu playlist in front of you .

Not anymore. The internet has everything.

And it breaks my heart.

Buying a Jukebox Today - Are You Nuts?

But hold on a second. Jukeboxes are last century’s technology? What about the mp3 players and computers that are getting smaller and improving each year? What about your friend that brags he has 49 days of tunes crammed in his combination digital music player, pc, video camera, and “astronaut phone” that he carries in his side pocket?

It will remind you of a simpler time. Dropping your quarter down the slot, hearing the mechanical workings of the player. Whether mechanical or digital, even the exterior designs of today’s new jukeboxes hearken back to the familiar retro feeling of the golden age of the fifties and sixties.

It will give you satisfaction. Remember the rush that came over you when your paid selection came on? For two minutes and forty-seven seconds, you controlled the joint.

It provides for a great family time activity. Imagine the jukebox battles your family can wage as each tries to out play and out select the other.

It will add to the décor of your family room or game room. Having a jukebox adds color, sound and excitement to any room. Believe me, your friends and guests will be excited to see it. Why? Because everyone equates a jukebox with fun and entertainment

Welcome To The Family Games Room!

If you have the space, it’s a great idea to create a family games room in your home. It helps to keep the family together, in a spirit of fun and relaxation, and it’s also a space you might want to invite your guests to enjoy with you. A games room is an excellent place to unwind after the stress of your working day, so tear yourself away from the television, and start playing games!

Of course the first thing you are going to think of when you think of setting up your games room will be the games that you are going to play. Amongst the most popular are a pool or ping pong table, and a card table is also worth including, especially if it’s one which you can also use for playing board games or doing jigsaws. Maybe include some classic arcade games, or a foosball or air hockey table. You could even put up a dartboard on the wall.

Games room obviously wouldn’t be complete without well, the games. You guys aren’t going to play rock, paper, scissors in there are you? Assess the space you have before buying and putting in the game tables and other stuff. Have a family discussion to decide what games you are going to put in the games room. Will you need a pool table, a ping-pong table and a card table?

A games room automatically becomes a hangout place too with friends. Therefore, comfortable furniture, for seating in particular should be top of the list. If there is enough space you can add a mini-bar for adult parties.

Music is likely to be needed in your games room, so set aside an area for your stereo and CDs. Also consider whether you want to include other entertainment systems, such as television, video games and so on.

Some add a slot machine, jukebox and karaoke system for a more realistic place of games and fun.

You don’t really have to decorate that much, as the games’ equipment will already fill the space. The right choice of color and a few essential items like posters and photos to brighten up the space will do.

Don’t forget the floor of the room. Comfort should also extend to the floor. A plush, thick area rug can be an excellent addition to any family room. It makes for a great area for the family to sit around for a few rambunctious board games or card games- Think scrabble, monopoly and rummy.

You can find rugs these days that have game themes, such as playing cards, soccer fields, basketball courts and even dartboards. A snakes and ladders rug would be wonderful for toddlers to enjoy a game or two and to cuddle up on when they are done.
